GM to the Top 1% ☕

One idea ran under everything this week, so here it is clean.

The counterparty changed. The person across the table used to get tired, like you, fear the deadline, like you, and value the relationship, like you. Increasingly, it is a machine that does none of that, and it is paid to grind you down twelve to eighteen percent.

You cannot out-endure it. You cannot charm it. You can only become the one thing it cannot do, which turns out to be the thing that was always your real job.

💡 UN-MODELABLE IS THE ONLY DEFENSIBLE POSITION LEFT.

Walk the week back. Monday, the machine buyer arrived, and it beats you on any variable you let it score. Tuesday, the relationship still matters, but only if you aim it at the human who owns the risk instead of wasting it on the spreadsheet. Wednesday, you do not win the argument, you edit what the model is told to optimize before it ever runs. Thursday, speed is a warning, not a trophy, because anything that closes in sixty seconds was already a commodity. Friday, volume went to zero cost and took its own value with it, so judgment became the whole product. Saturday, the agent does not fix your mess, it inherits it, so discipline is the moat.

Every one of those points is the same point. The machine is extraordinary at the modelable, price, volume, standard terms, clean comparisons. It is helpless at the un-modelable, trust, judgment, risk absorbed, an outcome a human will personally stand behind. For your whole career those human things were the soft part of the job, the stuff that did not fit in the CRM. This year they became the only hard currency left.

So stop competing where the machine is strong. Go be excellent where it cannot follow. Name the outcome, own the risk, earn the trust that makes a buyer overrule their own spreadsheet. Be the reason a person pauses the machine and says, we are going with them. That rep is not going extinct. That rep just became the most valuable one in the building.

🔧 THE WEEK IN FOUR MOVES

Carry these into Monday.

1. Assume an agent is in every deal: Your data is already modeled. Your value has to live above it.

2. Aim the relationship at the risk owner: Not the champion, not procurement. The human who gets blamed if it fails.

3. Edit the objective function: Get in early, add the costs the model ignores, turn your edge into a requirement.

4. Build the discipline underneath: Clean stages, real exit criteria, a documented motion. It is the moat the tools cannot copy.

🎯 THIS WEEK'S HOMEWORK

Write one sentence naming the thing you sell that no model can price. Put it at the top of your notes for your biggest deal. Everything you do on that deal this week should ladder back to that one sentence.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

When the machine has modeled everything else, what is left of you that it cannot replace?

Reply with your answer. That sentence is your whole strategy for the next two years.

See you tomorrow.

P.S. Becoming un-modelable is a practice, not a slogan, and it runs on prep. The 500 prompts I sell are the toolkit I use to do it, account research, value hypotheses, the buying-committee map, the reframe scripts. 27 dollars for the whole thing: https://store.edwardgorbis.com
