GM to the Top 1% 👋
Let's address the elephant in the room.
Every week there's a new headline: "AI Will Replace Sales Reps." Another startup raises $35M to automate your job. Another tool promises to "replace your SDR team."
If you're a sales professional in February 2026, you've heard this so many times that you're either terrified or numb.
Let me tell you which one to be: neither.
🎯 WHAT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING (NO HYPE)
Salesforce's 2026 State of Sales report: 87% of sales teams are now using AI in some form. 94% of sales leaders say AI agents are critical to their strategy. Teams using AI effectively are performing 1.7x better than teams that aren't.
But here's the number nobody's talking about: sales reps still spend only 28% of their time actually selling.
Less than a third of a sales rep's day is spent doing the thing they were hired to do.
The rest? CRM updates. Email drafting. Meeting scheduling. Pipeline reporting. Admin work that AI can do in seconds.
That's the real story. AI isn't replacing salespeople. It's replacing the non-sales work that salespeople hate.
🔑 THE GREAT SPLIT
Here's my thesis:
AI is going to split the sales profession into two groups.
Group 1: The Amplified. These reps use AI to eliminate admin work, research prospects faster, prepare for calls better, and free up time for the activities that actually close deals: building relationships, having strategic conversations, and earning trust. They'll close more. Earn more. Advance faster.
Group 2: The Replaced. These reps either ignore AI entirely ("it's a fad") or use it for the wrong things (mass-blasting AI-generated cold emails that all sound the same). The ignorers get outworked by Group 1. The mass-blasters destroy their own channel — AI-generated cold outreach without human judgment is just spam at scale.
Which group you end up in is about one thing: do you use AI to amplify human connection, or to replace it?
🤖 WHAT MONACO TELLS US ABOUT THE FUTURE
This month, Sam Blond launched Monaco — an AI-native sales platform that raised $35M from Founders Fund, with the Stripe founders as angel investors.
Here's the part most people missed: Monaco doesn't use AI to replace salespeople. They pair AI agents with experienced human sales reps. The AI handles research, outreach sequences, and CRM management. The humans handle the actual conversations and relationship-building.
Their platform does not have an agent pretending to be a sales rep trying to sell to the customer.
That's the model that works. Not AI instead of humans. AI alongside humans.
📊 YOUR AI STACK IN 2026
Here's what the best reps I know are actually using AI for:
Before the call: → AI researches the prospect's company, recent news, and LinkedIn activity → AI generates 3 potential pain points based on role and industry → AI drafts a personalized meeting agenda
During the call: → AI takes notes so you can actually focus on the conversation → AI captures action items automatically
After the call: → AI summarizes the meeting and drafts the follow-up email → AI updates CRM fields based on conversation content → AI flags risks based on deal patterns
Weekly: → AI-powered deal review (the 5-minute Friday habit from yesterday) → AI identifies job changes and trigger events in your network → AI drafts personalized outreach for warm reactivation
Total time saved per week: 8-12 hours. That's 8-12 hours you get back for the activities that actually close deals.
🔥 THE CAREER ADVICE NOBODY'S GIVING
When spreadsheets were invented, accountants who learned Excel didn't lose their jobs. They became 10x more productive and 10x more valuable.
When CRMs were invented, reps who learned Salesforce didn't lose their jobs. They became the ones who could manage 100+ accounts without drowning.
AI is the next tool. The reps who learn to use it well will become the most valuable people on any sales floor.
Don't be scared. Don't be numb. Be strategic.
Learn the tools. Build the habits. And double down on the things AI can't do: genuine curiosity, authentic relationships, and the kind of human judgment that comes from years of sitting across from another person and actually listening.
That's your moat. AI just made it wider.
✍️ YOUR HOMEWORK
Pick ONE AI-assisted habit from the stack above and make it part of your routine this week.
My recommendation: start with pre-call research. Before your next meeting, give an AI tool 2 minutes to research your prospect. Use it to ask a better opening question.
One habit. Compound it over 30 days. You'll never go back.
