GM to the Top 1% ☕
It is Saturday. Your laptop is closed. Good.
A CRO told me once, over coffee in a Palo Alto office with one window, that he only ever looked at one number on Monday mornings. "I do not care about activity. I do not care about leads. I care about conversion from stage 3 to stage 4. That is the whole business."
I have thought about that line every Saturday since.
💡 MID-FUNNEL IS WHERE COMPENSATION LIVES
The entire sales industry has been trained to optimize the top of funnel. More leads. More calls. More SDR hires. More tools. More dashboards.
But the math of every enterprise deal I have ever closed lives in one place. Stage 3 to stage 4 conversion. Discovery to validated opportunity. That number alone is 70% of your number.
Top reps have quietly figured out that the real AI leverage is not at the top of the funnel. It is in the middle. That is where the prompts that score risk, rewrite discovery notes, and surface the hidden "no" actually move money.
If your AI strategy is still pointed at "more emails per hour," you are optimizing the wrong corner. Point it at stage 3 to stage 4 and watch what happens.
🔧 THE MID-FUNNEL HEALTH CHECK (DO THIS SUNDAY)
15 minutes on your couch. Laptop optional. Pen and paper preferred.
1. Pull your last 20 stage-3 deals: Write down which ones advanced, which ones stalled. Do it on paper, not in a sheet.
2. Circle the stalls: What is the common pattern. No champion. No metric. No urgency. No power.
3. Label the fix: Each stall gets a one-word owner. "Champion." "Metric." "Power." "Timing." That label is the AI ask for next week.
4. Pick the top stall pattern: Whatever showed up most. That is your entire focus for next week. Not all of them. Just that one.
🎯 THIS WEEK'S HOMEWORK
The stall pattern you labeled in step 4 is your operating system for May. Every prompt you run this month should pointe at fixing that one thing. Reply with the label.
❓ QUESTION OF THE DAY
Where is your stage 3 to stage 4 conversion right now, and where would a 10-point gain land you in the board slide?
Reply. I am collecting the honest numbers.
Enjoy the weekend.
