GM to the Top 1% 🎯

Most reps show up to sales calls.

The top 1% show up prepared.

There's a difference. And buyers feel it in the first 90 seconds.

Over 15 years of enterprise sales, I developed a pre-call ritual I ran before every significant meeting. Big deal or small. New prospect or existing customer.

Here's the full system.

🔑 THE 5-PART PRE-CALL RITUAL

Step 1: The 8-minute research sprint.

Exactly 8 minutes before every call. LinkedIn activity, company news from the last 30 days, any earnings call or press release if they're public, and one personal detail I can reference authentically.

Not to impress them. To prove I'm not wasting their time.

Step 2: Write their problem before they say it.

Based on your research, complete this sentence: "I believe your biggest challenge right now is ___."

Don't share it on the call. Just have it. If they confirm it in the first 10 minutes, you're on track. If they don't, you learn something more valuable.

Step 3: Map the room.

Who is on this call? Who isn't on this call but should be? Who will kill this deal that you haven't met yet?

Write the names. Write their likely concerns. The deal you lose is almost always lost to someone you never talked to.

Step 4: Set the agenda out loud.

First 60 seconds: "Here's what I was thinking for today. I want to learn X from you. I'll share Y from my side. We'll decide together if a next step makes sense. Does that work?"

You now control the meeting without controlling the prospect.

Step 5: Define your walk-away.

Before the call, decide what would make this a great meeting and what would make this a bad fit.

When you know what a bad fit looks like, you stop chasing bad fits. That single shift will improve your close rate.

💡 WHY THIS WORKS

The ritual isn't about preparation for its own sake. It's about showing up as the most credible person in the room.

When a prospect senses that you've done real work before the call, something shifts. They stop testing you and start opening up. The conversation goes from interview to collaboration in minutes instead of never.

YOUR HOMEWORK

Run this ritual before your next three calls. All five steps. Time yourself on the research sprint — 8 minutes, hard stop.

Then notice what changes in the conversation.

❓ QUESTION OF THE DAY

Which of these 5 steps do you skip most often? And what has it cost you?
