GM to the Top 1% ☕

I watched a rep close a $480K deal last quarter on the strength of one email.

It was not the cold open. It was not the proposal. It was the follow-up after the second discovery call. Sent 11 minutes after she hung up. Three paragraphs. Anchored to a quote her champion had said in minute 27. Tied to the metric the CFO cared about. Closed with one specific next step and a calendar link.

Her champion forwarded it to four people inside the company within an hour. Two of them replied to the rep directly. The deal closed in 19 days from a 90-day forecast.

💡 MID-FUNNEL IS THE MOST UNDERPRICED AI USE CASE

Most reps and most teams point AI at the top of the funnel. Cold opens. Sequence variations. List building. The reply rates plateau. The blame goes to the prompt.

Here is the thing the data is screaming. Top-of-funnel reply rates are bound by signal quality. Mid-funnel response rates are bound by how fast you can build a personalized recap that the buyer can forward. Top-of-funnel is a 2 to 8% game. Mid-funnel is a 30 to 60% game. The leverage is not even close.

The follow-up email is the most underpriced AI use case in sales. Done well, it is the moment your champion becomes your evangelist. Done poorly, it is the moment the deal stalls in their inbox for three weeks while the buying committee re-evaluates without you in the room.

Yet most reps still write it from scratch in the parking lot. AI is sitting right there. Feed it the call notes. Feed it the buyer’s last LinkedIn post. Feed it the three CFO concerns from last quarter’s earnings call. Get a draft in 90 seconds. Edit for 4 minutes. Send within 15. Watch what happens to your win rate.

🔧 THE 11-MINUTE FOLLOW-UP PROTOCOL

A four-step protocol I run after every discovery or working session.

1. Capture the moment that mattered: Within 60 seconds of hanging up, write down one quote your champion said and one number that surprised you. These are the anchors. AI cannot find them after the fact.

2. Feed AI the recap prompt: "Using these call notes plus the champion’s last 3 LinkedIn posts plus the company’s last earnings call, draft a 3-paragraph follow-up that opens with their quote, names the surprise number, and ends with one specific decision we need by next Friday."

3. Edit for one human moment: AI will give you 80%. The 20% that wins the deal is one specific human reference. The book on their bookshelf. The kid in the photo behind them. The coffee shop they mentioned. Add one. Cut three adjectives.

4. Send within 15 minutes: Speed is the second variable nobody talks about. Sub-15-minute follow-ups close 2.4x faster than next-day follow-ups. The recency effect inside the buyer’s head is real. Use it.

🎯 THIS WEEK’S HOMEWORK

Pick your three most important meetings next week. Pre-stage the AI follow-up prompt before each call so all you have to do after is paste your notes. Send each follow-up within 15 minutes of hanging up. Track the response time on each.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

How long does it take you to send a follow-up after your average discovery call right now?

Reply with your number. I will tell you what it is costing you.

See you tomorrow.

P.S. The 500 prompt library has a full mid-funnel section. Recap templates, champion-arming briefs, executive summary drafts, multi-thread reactivations. Most of them are under 200 words. All of them are the unsexy work that makes the quota happen. $27 once. Yours forever here.
