A rep on my team told me last week she spent an hour researching a prospect before a discovery call. She pulled LinkedIn, Glassdoor, 10-K filings, and three competitor case studies. The call lasted 22 minutes and went nowhere.

The problem was not her effort. It was her process

📉 THE PREP TRAP

Here is what most sellers do before a call. They open LinkedIn. Scroll the prospect's profile. Skim their company's About page. Maybe check the latest earnings call transcript.

Then they walk into the meeting with a pile of facts and zero perspective.

Facts are not insights. Knowing that a company had 12% revenue growth last quarter does not tell you what keeps the VP of Ops up at night. It does not tell you which initiative has executive sponsorship or where the budget is shifting.

The reps who win are not the most researched. They are the most prepared with a point of view.

🔧 THE 90-SECOND AI PREP PROMPT

Here is the exact prompt I use before every enterprise call. It takes 90 seconds and replaces 45 minutes of manual research.

1. Copy this into your AI tool of choice: "You are an enterprise sales strategist. I am meeting with [Name], [Title] at [Company] in [Industry]. Research their company's recent earnings, strategic initiatives, competitive landscape, and likely challenges for someone in their role. Then give me: (a) three hypotheses about their biggest current challenge, (b) two questions I should ask that show I understand their business, (c) one insight they probably have not considered."

2. Review the output for 60 seconds. Pick the strongest hypothesis. That becomes your opening.

3. Verify one data point independently. AI can hallucinate. One wrong stat destroys your credibility. Cross-check the most specific claim.

4. Write your opening line. Not a question. A point of view. "Based on what I am seeing across [industry], I believe your team is dealing with [hypothesis]. Here is why that matters."

The magic is not the AI output. It is that you walk into the call with conviction instead of curiosity. Buyers respect a seller who has a perspective.
